I Dreamed a Dream

Standard

One of the first musicals I ever saw on the stage was a touring production of Les Miserables. I cannot even begin to describe the emotions that this musical made me feel. The story, the staging, and most of all the music all combined to create one of the most touching and powerful musicals I have ever seen, still to this day after all the shows I have watched since then.

When I heard that this most amazing musical was being brought to the screen I was filled with nervous excitement. If done well this could easily become my favorite movie. If done poorly…I don’t even want to think about the devastation I would feel. Well, when I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman a couple weeks ago with my mother (who loves this musical even more than me) we were surprised to see the trailer. As soon as the first notes of ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ played we both gasped and I slapped a hand on her arm in anticipation. Neither of us could breath or tear our eyes away from the screen. When it was over I looked at her and we both had tears streaming down our faces. If the trailer is anything to go by, this adaptation is going to be everything I hoped it would be.

What do you think? Are you excited about this movie? Have you seen the stage production? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I’ve seen it in the West End in London. It’s always so difficult for me to name my absolute favorite musical, but Les Mis is certainly one of them. I’m really thrilled with the cast, and I hope that means the average moviegoer will still go to see it.

  2. Oh, I hadn’t seen the trailer, it looks great!
I watched it for the first time in 2010, in London. It was incredible! I really want to read the book, but it’s so long and I just haven’t the time to get into it at the moment!
