The Opening Ceremonies are Tonight!!

Standard

As you know from the post I put up a month ago, I am incredibly excited for the Olympics. And guess what…they are finally here!

Tonight the Parade of Nations and Opening Ceremonies will take place. This is always one of the biggest highlights of the games for me. I love watching all the different countries from around the world proudly march in together. I love seeing what displays the host country has come up with to dazzle us. And I love watching the lighting of the torch.

One of the big joys each Olympic year is getting to see who has been chosen as the final torch bearer and lighter. It is usually some great sports hero for the host country or some other person of great significance and pride for the country. But this year, for London 2012, my little Whovian nerd heart sincerely hopes it is David Tennant. Yep. I have made it all the way through season 2 of Doctor Who in the great Merwho marathons (I still can’t discuss ‘Doomsday’) and I think seeing the Doctor light the torch as he did in the show would be un-freaking-believable. I mean, it has already happened, right?

Will you be watching tonight? What parts are you most looking forward to? Who do you hope will get to be the final torch bearer? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I can’t wait!!! Beijing did such an incredible job with the Opening ceremonies that I can’t imagine how London could top it. But I heard that they’re going to include England’s history in their ceremony. That will be interesting. We’ve planned our whole day around being available for the opening cermonies tonight. I can’t wait!!!
